Blodeuwedd (Old Welsh) means "flower face." The Welsh woman conjured from the flowers of oak, broom, and meadowsweet by the magicians Math and Gwydion — created as a wife for Lleu Llaw Gyffes, whom no woman of any race could marry by his mother Arianrhod's curse. She betrayed Lleu by taking the warrior Gronw Pebr as her lover and plotting Lleu's murder — for which she was punished by being turned into an owl, condemned to fly only at night.
