Diotima (Διοτίμα) combines the Greek Dio (of Zeus) and tīmē (honor) — "honored by Zeus." Diotima of Mantinea was the priestess and philosopher who, in Plato's Symposium, teaches Socrates the philosophy of love and beauty (the famous "Ladder of Love").
Whether historical or literary, she remains one of the most influential female philosophical voices.
