Meena (मीना) is the Sanskrit-Hindi word for "fish" (also the lapis-lazuli enamel) — the Pisces zodiac sign. Meena Kumari (1933-1972) — born Mahjabeen Bano — was the Hindi cinema actress called "The Tragedy Queen" of Indian cinema. Her performance in Pakeezah (1972) — released weeks before her death from cirrhosis at 38 — is among the most iconic in Indian film history. Her Urdu poetry, written under the pen name Naaz, was published posthumously.
Meena does not currently appear in the US Social Security Administration's top 1,000 girls' names, so we don't publish a US rank or birth count for it. That says nothing about the name's standing elsewhere in the world — only that it sits outside the ranked US data we rely on.
In Pythagorean numerology the letters of Meena reduce to 2, The Peacemaker. This is a traditional interpretive system, not a factual claim about the name.
