Shinsawbu (1394-1471) was the only female monarch in the history of the Mon Kingdom of Hanthawaddy (lower Burma) — reigned 1453-1471. Her greatest achievement was the renovation and gilding of the Shwedagon Pagoda at Yangon (Rangoon) — Burma's holiest Buddhist site — adding gold equal to her own body weight.
