Xilonen is from the Nahuatl xilotl (young ear of corn) + nen (one with) — the Hairy One (referring to corn silk). Xilonen is the Aztec goddess of young corn — the tender, immature stage of maize before harvest — and one of the agricultural deities of Mesoamerica. Appears throughout the Aztec codices including the Codex Magliabechiano and the Florentine Codex by Bernardino de Sahagún (c. Central to modern Mexican-American agricultural and feminist art.
