Vak (वाक्) is the Sanskrit word for "speech, sacred utterance" — root of the English "voice." The Vedic Rishika Vak Ambhrini composed Rigveda 10.125 — the Devi Sukta, one of the most powerful self-declarations in the Vedas: "I move with the Rudras, the Vasus, the Adityas; I support the heavens; I am she who blows like the wind." Identified with the goddess herself — the deification of Speech as Sarasvati's predecessor.
